RIVER MOTO

WHAT IS A MOPED?

A moped (/ˈmoʊpɛd/ MOH-ped) is a small motorcycle, generally having a less stringent licensing requirement than motorcycles or automobiles b/c mopeds typically travel about the same speed as bicycles on public roadways. Strictly speaking, mopeds are driven by both an engine & by bicycle pedals, but in common usage & in many jurisdictions the term moped's used for similar vehicles including a scooter. Mopeds occasionally resemble powered bicycles, more commonly called a motorized bicycle. Some mopeds are of a step-through type design, while others are step-over designs, having a motorcycle-like frame, including a "backbone" & a raised fuel tank, mounted directly between the saddle & the head tube. Most are similar to a regular motorcycle, only having the addition of pedals, in which the rider can both manually power the vehicle through a bicycle-like crankset in addition to a small displacement engine. Although mopeds usually have 2 wheels, some regions classify low-powered 3- or (rarely) 4-wheeled vehicles as a moped.

HOW MANY MILES PER GALLON DOES A MOPED GET?

Mopeds can achieve fuel economy of over 100 mpg-US (2.4 L/100 km; 120 mpg-imp).

DO I NEED A MOPED LICENSE IN KY?

You must be at least 16-years-old to apply for your moped license. If you already have a driver's/motorcycle license/permit, it'll suffice. You won't need a moped license too.

SHOULD I WEAR SAFETY GEAR?

River Moto highly recommends that all riders wear full face motorcycles helmets (can be found for $47.99 @ motorcycle-superstore.com) & motorcycle gloves (leather can be found for $14.95 @ motorcycle-superstore.com). Do not ever wear open-toe shoes (e.g., flip-flops, peep-toe booties, or sandals) while riding.

WHAT IS MOPED ARMY?

The Moped Army's an organization of moped enthusiasts, centered on the organization's website which serves as a catalyst for the spread of moped culture & the organization of moped-related events throughout the US & Canada. Founded in 1997 as the Decepticons in Kalamazoo, Michigan by Daniel Kastner, Simon King, & Brennan Sang. As of July 2016, the organization has grown to include 21 official branches across the US. The branches each have a unique name, often inspired by the city in which they’re based, & are self-governing; implementing their own criteria regarding membership & activities. W/ the motto of "Swarm & Destroy," the Moped Army has been the subject of a graphic novel by Paul Sizer & a documentary called "Swarm & Destroy."
